The co-operative movement was built by people who took on the responsibility for their collective well being in the face of government neglect, economic exclusion and cultural discrimination. In the increasingly discriminatory and unbalanced era of Late Capitalism, the co-operative becomes a rare beacon for an alternative economic model. The screening will be preceded by a short awards delivery from the Vancity Community Video Nomination Competition. The competition invited community members to submit a short film showcasing the efforts and impact of a local unsung hero who inspires by example and makes a social or environmental impact in the community. Three award winners will be in attendance at the screening to accept their awards. After the screening there is going to be a panel discussion.
