Winner of the Grand Jury Award for Best Feature at SXSW and the New American Cinema Award at the Seattle Film Festival, Thunder Road marks the arrival of an exciting new talent in writer-director-actor Jim Cummings.

Cummings plays Officer Jim Arnaud, a small town Texas cop who is rapidly losing his grip in the face of an impending divorce and his mother’s death. We first meet his at his mom’s funeral, delivering an excruciating eulogy, complete with an interpretative dance inspired by Bruce Springsteen’s title song but performed without music because Officer Jim’s daughter’s boom-box is on the blink. The sequence is funny and mortifying, touching and ludicrous - which pretty much sets the tone(s) for what’s to come. Suffice it to say, things don’t get easier for Jim, whose evident sincerity only exacerbates his social awkwardness. Whether his fate will turn out to be tragic or comic this strangely touching movie keeps us guessing.
