Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes

One can’t overstate the influence of Blue Note Records, the jazz record label founded in New York in 1939 by German refugees Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff. Coltrane, Davis, Monk, Powell—the list of stars who recorded for the label is astounding. Sophie Huber’s musical celebration of Blue Note’s history includes interviews with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Norah Jones and others, as well as a recording session with current star Robert Glasper and a consideration of the label’s stunning cover art.
