Mohawk filmmaker Tracey Deer was 12 then and she has turned her memories into a singularly compelling and political coming-of-age movie about a young girl (Kiawentiio) engaged in her own personal rebellion. Sensitively drawn, alternately delicate and raw, Deer's movie is moving and important testimony about the Oka Crisis.
