As Canada competes at the Women’s World Cup, events for fans to join in the excitement are popping up all over the Lower Mainland. GirlsCAN Football, host of the Western Canada Soccer Showcase for young soccer players, has put together an exciting and informative weekend including a Women’s Soccer Symposium on Saturday July 4th, and a Charity Breakfast Gala on Sunday July 5th.

The Symposium will feature Brian Sorensen (Denmark), from one of Europe’s top female soccer clubs, Fortuna Hjorring, Thora Helgadottir (Iceland), a recently retired, top European goalkeeper who now coaches in the Icelandic Pro League and Randy Waldrum (USA), a long time coach of the NCAA Champions, University of Notre Dame and US U23 National Team who now is the Head Coach of the NWSL (US pro league) Houston Dash. Sunday’s Breakfast Gala will feature Danish National Team standout Nadia Nadim, whose family escaped the Taliban in Afghanistan when she was 12 years old, and her inspiring story was recently featured in the New York Times.

The already sold-out World Cup final and events like this Women’s Soccer Symposium and Charity Breakfast Gala, demonstrate that support for female athletes is growing, and Canada is in the spotlight this summer.

We invite you to celebrate women’s soccer and support charity with us on July 4-5th, at the Hilton Metrotown in Burnaby (a short walk from the Metrotown Skytrain, accessible to downtown and the World Cup Final site). We encourage all participants to be over the age of 14, due to the professional nature of the presentations.

All event proceeds will go towards charity. For more information on the speakers and to purchase tickets ($25-$50), please visit http://girlscanfootball.com/world-cup-events/
