A Weekend Near Madison
Historic Theatre, 1895 Venables, Vancouver Island Productions presents Kathleen Tolan’s comedy-drama play A WEEKEND NEAR MADISON, directed by Mel Tuck
It’s a little over a decade since the pill and burn-the-bra. It is a few years short of AIDS and it’s 1979. We have the changing face of male and female relationships. Men are struggling to find a new identity and are faced with the old perceptions while women are creating a new world.
Vanessa arrives with her lesbian lover Sammy for a weekend visit with her college friends David, his wife Doe and his younger brother Jimmy - her ex-lover. As Vanessa asks Jimmy to father her child, the play charts the funny journey of the group’s political alliances, especially the chasm that has opened up between men and political women.
