Vancouver: A Progressive City
Vancity Theatre, 1181 Seymour, Vancouver This reprise of the City of Vancouver Archives’ 2014 screening focuses on the city from the 1930s-1960s. With selections from newsreels, home movies, industrial and promotion films, historian Michael Kluckner will provide commentary revealing an unassuming but progressive Vancouver with emphasis on its workforce, noteworthy celebrations, and the city’s commerce, heritage and culture.
Archival gems will include the construction of the Lions Gate Bridge, early milk delivery service, the CFL and Shriners parades, and television spots reporting on the community.
Pianist Wayne Stewart will provide accompaniment for movies that were originally produced without sound.
