In Georgian London, no one is more famous than Samuel Foote. Satirist, impressionist and dangerous comedian, he has become a star in the earliest days of celebrity culture. Adored by many, despised by some, Foote finds himself at the sharp end of attacks from the press – and a surgeon’s knife. And in an age obsessed with fame, his colleagues from the worlds of science and the stage – from Benjamin Franklin to David Garrick – begin to wonder: does fame make you mad? Ian Kelly’s riotously funny play, based on the amazing true story of Foote, explores our obsession with celebrities, and their rise and fall.

Warning: course language and a gruesome (but dramatic!) scene.

Mr. Foote’s Other Leg stars Kazz Leskard as Mr. Foote with Francis Dowlatabadi, Joel Garner, Kenta Nezu, Bethany Stanley, Shona Struthers, Simon Webb, Elizabeth Willow, Aidan Wright, and Russell Zishiri. It is directed by Sarah Rodgers, with assistant director Alen Dominguez, dramaturgy by Michael Groberman, set design by Brian Ball, lighting design by Darren W. Hales, costume design by Catherine E. Carr, properties by Linda Begg, technical direction by Michael Methot, stage management by Jessica Hildebrand, and is produced by John Harris.



Mr. Foote’s Other Leg runs at the Jericho Arts Centre (1675 Discovery) from Sept. 1-24, Thursday through Sunday. All performances at 8 pm except Sundays Sept. 10,17,24, when there is a 2pm matinée (no evening performance). Tickets are $20-$26, and are available on line at www.unitedplayers.com or at the door.
