Who are we?

Strathcona Artisan Market started as an idea to empower low-income artists in the Strathcona/Downtown Eastside neighbourhood to seek ways to turn their creativiy and talent into sustainable income source. The Strathcona Artisan Market is run entirely by volunteers, all of whom live, work or volunteer regularly in the Strathcona/DTES neighbourhood.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Our purpose

The Strathcona Artisan Market is about unleashing potential!

Unleashing the potential of low-income residents in the Strathcona/Downtown Eastside neighbourhood to develop small business enterprises, to expand their networks, and to create their own sources of income as entrepreneurs.

Unleashing the potential of human creativity through the development of skills and talents in making art, crafts, and food, and it the exciting work of building a business.

Unleashing the potential of community by bringing together people from different income-levels and cultural backgrounds into a fun, empowering, mutually-enriching, and family friendly neighbourhood event.

What can you expect?

The Strathcona Artisan Market is an outdoor summer market, where local residents have an opportunity to sell their creations -- art, crafts, textiles, and food. But it is so much more than that!

Its a tool of economic empowerment: We work with vendors who may need support and mentorship in developing their small businesses, planning for market day, and expanding skill sets and capacity (e.g. obtaining food safe certification, making a business plan, etc.). Our hope is that the market is a catalyst for something much bigger.

We also aim to make the market super fun! That's why we've included lots of free fun events and activities at the market: A clothing swap, face painting and other activities for kids, local busking musicians, etc. We want the market to feel like a festival!

-----------------------------------------------------------------
I want to get involve! How can I help?

Join us in this exciting initiative! Here's how you can get involved:

1. Donate money to help cover the market expenses so that we can keep vending booths free of charge for vendors. Our goal is to raise $3,000 by August.

4. Tell your friends about the market and about this fundraising campaign.

5. Come to the market and buy something!

I want to be a vendor!

That's great! If you are an artist local to Strathcona, we want to help you out!

We don't charge our vendors anything, and all proceeds go to your pocket. If you are interested, apply here: https://www.strathconaartisanmarket.ca/vendor-application-form
