The most exciting and anticipated astronomical event of the year, the solar eclipse on August 21st is going to be spectacular. This eclipse marks the first time in 99 years that a total solar eclipse crossed the entire continental USA and here in Vancouver, we will be able to observe a whopping 86% totality!

We will be celebrating with a big community viewing party! From 8:45am-noon we will have a selection of solar telescopes, live streams, sun projections, and, of course, solar eclipse glasses for safe viewing. Join us on the grass outside of our Gordon Southam Observatory for this once in a lifetime event! During and after the viewing, the Space Centre will be open for special, eclipse-themed shows and activities.

Admission, including solar glasses, by donation.
Regular rates apply to shows and activities in the main building.

Start of eclipse: 9:10
Maximum: 10:21
End of eclipse: 11:37

Just looking for solar eclipse viewing glasses? They are currently available by donation at our Front Desk, and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on event day.
