On September 14th, join Reel Causes for our second annual Common Threads screening of short films.

Common Threads is a celebration that showcases the graduate films of Intersections Media Opportunities For Youth Society and other established local filmmakers. This year’s event includes a new collection of Messages to Younger Selves, a series of animated shorts made by youth, sure to tear at our heartstrings, as well as a sneak peek of a locally made environmental documentary. There will be a post-film Q&A with the filmmakers.

THE FILM | Messages to Our Younger Selves

Running time: 80 minutes

Reel Causes is thrilled to host the second annual Common Threads event, a program of locally-made short films. The anchor for this event is the incredible, inspirational and complex works of Intersections Media Opportunities for Youth, including the delightful collection of animated shorts Messages to Younger Selves, including films by Justine – Juliette Grindley, Kayla Reid, Aaron Clark, Jacob Sexsmith, Eli Terlson and many others. At times clever, heartbreaking and often landing very close to home, these gems remind us how resilient the human spirit can be.

THE CAUSE

Intersections Media Opportunities for Youth Society is a non-profit charitable organization founded by the late Bill Vince, an Oscar-nominated Vancouver filmmaker, and advocate for youth at risk. Their program offers a digital media and life skills workshop and work experience opportunity to youth facing multiple barriers to employment. Through the unique and familiar medium of art and digital filmmaking as well as involvement in group-based projects, Intersections participants gain the experience and confidence for long-term attachment to the workforce.
