The complexity and continually changing nature of the body inspires META, an exciting and provocative new work by the award-winning choreographer and performer Deanna Peters. Created and performed by Peters in collaboration with dance artists Justine A. Chambers and Kim Sato, with designs by set and costume artist Natalie Purschwitz, META proposes that our bodies are not one thing, but that we fluid, messy, and protean.

META is supported through The Dance Centre’s Iris Garland Emerging Choreographer Award, which is presented every two years to an artist who demonstrates exceptional choreographic ability and the potential to realize a future in the creative realm of dance.

Since 2003, Deanna Peters/MutableSubject has been creating, performing, teaching, producing and designing for stage, screen, web, print, specific sites and beyond. Known for her barefaced and imaginative productions, she’s worked with dozens of presenters to share her projects across Canada and internationally, as well as producing many of her own indie dance shows and parties. META continues Deanna’s interest in incorporating various dance styles, artistic disciplines and movement forms into her work, which she ties together under the artistic motto “it’s all dance”.
