Worldly Approaches to Improvisation - Music from Iran and Israel

The Vashaan Music Society, is pleased to present the second project in a series of concerts entitled: “FUSIC #2 - Worldly Approaches to Improvisation.” The FUSIC Series is project which introduces musicians from diverse backgrounds with the aim of creating a unique sound experience for audiences. FUSIC # 2 will be held on December 1st 2017 at the Inlet Theatre in Port Moody, British Columbia. The evening will be a two part concert and feature three amazing soloists from Iran and Israel.
Guitarist, Itamar Erez will perform new pieces and compositions as well as explore improvised space with Iranian percussionist, Hamin Honari. The two musicians have been working together for the past two years and have performed in many concerts and festivals in British Columbia. The sounds of Erez’s quarter-toned guitar blend effortlessly with Iranian percussion instruments played by Honari such as the Tombak, Daf, and Dayereh. Erez, is a well-known Israeli-Canadian soloist and his music is a unique blend of Jazz, Middle Eastern, and Classical music. Honari is an established musician who has been active touring with many of Iran’s greatest musicians and ensembles. His unique style of percussion goes beyond the traditional sounds of Persian music and finds its place in many different styles of music.

Sina Ettehad will also present new works on the Iranian Kamanche (spike fiddle). Ettehad is a virtuoso on the Kamanche and comes from a background of live performance in both concerts and theatre. He also has a long history working with Hamin Honari. The two musicians have played together in ensembles such as the Kereshmeh ensemble, the Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra and the Raha Group. Ettehad hopes that this project will be a tribute to the multi-cultural society of Canada which has been his home for the past 9 years.

The Vashaan Music Society was created in 2015 by musicians to help give a louder voice to talented artists from diverse backgrounds. The society aims to create cultural and musical understanding among artists and the society that they live in.
