Cantus Missae: Rheinberger and the Romantics
Holy Rosary Cathedral, 646 Richards [at Dunsmuir], VancouverHear German Romantic choral music at its best presented by the Vancouver Cantata Singers. Josef Rheinberger’s most famous choral piece, Cantus Missae, was written for double choir with a unique influence of renaissance polyphony and romantic harmony. As a prolific composer, Rheinberger was remarkable for his power of invention, masterful technique, and a noble, solid style. Johannes Brahms and Anton Bruckner also wrote several a cappella choral works which feature the rich harmonic beauty of the 19th century. We welcome VCS alumni members to the stage as we celebrate our 60th anniversary season!
