Did you know light pollution can affect both human health, as well as nature? Artificial lighting can disrupt migratory patterns and affect the survival of both animals and plants.

Moreover, light pollution is not just limited to night-time hours. It can affect people in their workplaces during the day-time.

As with all problems, there are solutions. We will discuss some of the ways we can reduce the effect of light pollution and sky glow, leading to a healthier environment. The International Dark Sky Association, for example, aids the worldwide effort to reduce light pollution.

Choosing dark sky compliant lighting, and understanding LED and how it differs from conventional lighting will be part of the conversation.

As owner of Global Environmental Lighting Services, Brian Bury has spent over four decades in the lighting industry. A long-time member of the International Dark Sky Association, Brian is also one of only a dozen Green ambassadors in Canada, a past member of the Illuminating Engineering Society, a board member of Creatively United for The Planet Society and a BC Hydro Alliance Energy Professional. Brian designs and installs sustainable lighting solutions for commercial clients, focussing on human-centric lighting and energy savings.
