Vancouver, BC – November 1st, 2017 – The PCHC-MoM Society today announced its upcoming inaugural gala and fundraising event - From Far and Wide Gala. The Society has been functioning as a "museum without walls" for five years, offering educational programs related to the history, culture, and the “living stories” of Asian and Aboriginal Canadians with partners across the country through a dedicated team of volunteers based in Metro Vancouver. “Our collective history is more than a story of separate groups each with their own culture,” said Henry Yu, historian and co-founder of PCHC-MoM Society “We need to recognize the society and culture we have all built interacting with each other.” Previously without any public fund-raising, the Society is now ready to make their formal introduction to the public and celebrate their progress at this first fundraising event.
The Gala will feature a lavish buffet dinner, lucky draw, inspirational storytelling, a kebaya fashion show choreographed by Natasha Honey Norita, and a headline show from CBC host and comedian Ali Hassan. Nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award for ‘Best Breakout Artist’ and the awardee of 'Comedian of The Year' in 2015, Ali is an internationally recognized artist who has taken stage across the world. Expect to meet many community leaders, politicians, public figures, and other surprising guests at this community event. All proceedings from fundraising will be used to advance the PCHC-MoM Society’s mandate and to realize their dream of building a physical hub where Canadians can discover and share heritage stories.
