Located smack in the middle of Main under a distinctive red and white striped awning, Slickity Jim’s Chat 'n' Chew serves up stick-to-your-ribs comfort food with a slice of attitude. This casual diner is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 8:30 in the morning until midnight. Chef and owner Mike Zalman developed the menu to reflect both Southern food and Vancouver’s need for a place where vegans, vegetarians, carnivores, and omnivores can all get something to eat. Their breakfast menu reflects this with items like We Don’t Need No Eggs and Bacon (a tofu scramble seasoned with sesame oil, garlic, cilantro, ginger, and cracked chilies) and the Go Man (an eggs benedict with grilled salmon and mango salsa). Their lunch menu features a bewildering array of sandwiches, burgers, and salads like the Dove in My Hand (a turkey sandwich with avocado, tomato, and butter lettuce on marble rye) and the Dr. Jimmy & Mr. Jim (wild green salad with honey-glazed chicken, apples, and toasted almonds in a balsamic vinaigrette).
