A young Ontario woman who scaled St. Mark's Summit has died after being unable to find her way out of the area.

In a statement today, Squamish RCMP said that around 4:15 p.m. on January 14, a caller notified West Vancouver police about a missing snowshoer in that area. The summit is along the Howe Sound Crest Trail.

After an overnight search, she was found in a steep drainage area and was airlifted out.

Sadly, the 21-year-old did not survive.

Police did not name her, but she's been identified as Nikki Donnelly over social media. North Shore Rescue referred to her as "Nikki".

The Toronto woman's Instagram account includes many images of her in the B.C. outdoors.

She was hiking alone and contacted her boyfriend in Toronto after becoming lost.

Prior to her death, she posted video of the summit of St. Mark's Summit on social media.
