As B.C. battles wildfires across the province, there have been a number of suspicious fires in various municipalities, separate from the vandalism and fire incidents at B.C. churches.

Suspected arson incidents have taken place in North Vancouver, Kelowna, and Salmo, where a series of seven fires have taken place.

The latest incident occurred in the Fraser Valley.

According to the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD), Abbotsford emergency services responded around 4 a.m. to a fire at a section of the boardwalk bridge in Mill Lake Park, near the Bouquin Crescent West entrance.

Abbotsford Fire Services extinguished the blaze.

The fire, which is believed to have begun shortly before 4 a.m., destroyed a section of the boardwalk, resulting in the structure being deemed unsafe for use.

The investigation into the incident continues on, and anyone who has information or footage from the area is asked to call AbbyPD at 604-859-5225.

Meanwhile due to extremely dry conditions and high temperatures, the Vancouver park board is restricting overnight access to Stanley Park to protect it from potential fires.
