B.C. Hydro has confirmed that there is one COVID-19 case at the Site C work camp in Fort St. John.

According to B.C. Hydro, a worker arrived from Alberta on July 13 and received a positive test result on July 15, at which point the worker self-isolated. Norther Health confirmed the case on July 16 with a second test.

It’s the first positive case reported at the dam project.

An on-site health clinic is taking care of the worker, who had not left the camp or had any interactions with the local community before going into quarantine.

Northern Health is conducting contract tracing. Workers at the site are being asked to self-monitor for symptoms.

Construction activity at the dam was reduced at the onset of the pandemic in the province in March but began resuming in mid-May.

As of July 16, B.C. reported there were 65 COVID-19 cases in the Northern Health region.
