COVID-19 in B.C.: 39 schools add new exposure dates in all five health regions

      Today, all regional health authorities added schools with new exposure dates, for a total of 39 schools, which is only one less than yesterday.

      Again, Fraser Health had the largest number of schools with new exposures.

      B.C. provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry answered some questions about school issues, including wearing masks and delays in exposure information. For more details, see today’s B.C. COVID-19 update article.

      Island Health added one school on Salt Spring Island: Gulf Islands Secondary School (232 Rainbow Road) on November 26.

      Northern Health added one school: Centennial Christian School (3608 Sparks Street) in Terrace had an exposure event from November 23 to 26.

      Interior Health

      Interior Health had five schools with new exposures.

      Kelowna had three  schools with new dates:

      • Rutland Senior Secondary (705 Rutland Road North), which had a previous exposure event from November 16 to 19, added November 23 to 24 and 27;
      • Mar Jok Elementary School (2101 McDougall Road) in West Kelowna on November 23;
      • St. Joseph Elementary School (839 Sutherland Avenue)—which previously had exposures from October 21 to 22; and on November 2—added November 23 as an additional date.

      In Penticton, Princess Margaret Secondary (120 Green Avenue West) had exposures from November 26 to 27.

      In Kamloops, Westsyde Secondary School (855 Bebek Road) had exposures from November 24 to 27.

      Vancouver Coastal Health

      Vancouver Coastal Health had four schools in Richmond with new exposure dates:

      • Richmond Secondary School (7171 Minoru Boulevard)—which previously had exposures from October 7 to 9; from November 2 to 3; and from November 24 to 25—added November 26 to 27 as exposures;
      • J.N. Burnett Secondary School (5011 Granville Avenue) had exposures from November 24 to 26;
      • Matthew McNair Secondary School (9500 No. 4 Road), which had previous exposures on November 12 and 16, added November 19 and 24 to 27; 
      • Az-Zahraa Islamic Academy (8580 No. 5 Road)—which had previous exposures on November 16, and from November 25 to 26—added November 24.

      Fraser Health

      Fraser Health had 28 schools with new exposure dates.

      In Abbotsford, six schools had new dates:

      Abbotsford Christian School temporarily closed its middle school on November 16 for two weeks after it had exposures from November 4 to 6 and from November 9 to 10 with six confirmed cases, while its elementary and secondary schools remained open. However, it has had some subsequent exposures, including:

      • Abbotsford Christian Elementary (3939 Old Clayburn Road): November 18 to 20 and 24;
      • Abbotsford Christian Middle (35011 Old Clayburn Road): November 25;
      • Abbotsford Christian Secondary (35011 Old Clayburn Road): November 19 to 20 and 23 to 26;
      • Abbotsford Traditional Secondary School (2272 Windsor Street) added November 18 to 20;
      • Cornerstone Christian School (520–3970 Gladwin Road), which previously had exposures from November 18 to 20, added November 21 to 25;
      • Rick Hansen Secondary (31150 Blueridge Drive)—which previously had exposures on October 6, 7, and 13; from October 14 to 16; on November 2; from November 3 and 4; from November 9 to 10; and on November 17—added November 23.

      In Burnaby, Outlook Secondary Program (204–3993 Henning Drive) had an exposure on November 26.

      In Coquitlam, Hillcrest Middle School (2161 Regan Avenue) had an exposure on November 20.

      In Chilliwack, three schools had new exposure dates:

      • Chilliwack Secondary (46363 Yale Road)—which previously had exposure events from September 22 to 24; from October 26 to 29; from November 3 to 5; from November 12 to 13; and on November 17—added November 24 to 25; 
      • Mount Slesse Middle School (5871 Tyson Road) had exposures from November 23 to 24;
      • Rosedale Traditional Community School (50850 Yale Road) in Rosedale, which previously had exposures from October 26 to 28, added November 23 to 24.

      Delta had three schools with new exposures:

      • Hellings Elementary (11655 86th Avenue)—which previously had exposures on November 19, 20, 23, and 24—added November 26;
      • Ladner Elementary (5016 44th Avenue) had an exposure on November 26;
      • North Delta Secondary (11447 82nd Avenue)—which previously had an exposure event from November 12 to 13, and from November 19 to 20—added November 23.

      In Langley, Peter Ewart Middle School (7755 202a Street) had exposures from November 26 and 27.

      Two schools in New Westminster had exposures:

      • École Qayqayt Elementary (85 Merivale Street) from November 18 to 20;
      • Queen Elizabeth Elementary (921 Salter Street) had an exposure on November 20.
      Hjorth Road Elementary

      In Surrey, 11 schools had new exposure dates:

      • Adams Road Elementary (18228 68th Avenue) had exposures from November 19 to 20;
      • Frank Hurt Secondary (13940 77th Avenue) in Surrey—which previously had exposures from October 1 to 2; from October 5 to 9; from October 13 to 16; on October 19, 21, 22, and 30from November 2 to 3; on November 4, 5, 10, and 12from November 16 to 17; and on November 19; and from November 23 to 24—added November 25 to 27;
      • Hjorth Road Elementary (148th Street) had an exposure on November 19;
      • Holly Elementary (4625 62nd Street)—which previously had an exposure on November 4, and from November 10 to 12; and from November 16 to 18—added November 19 to 20;
      • Queen Elizabeth Secondary School (9457 King George Boulevard)—which previously had exposures on September 14; from October 14 to 16; from October 19, 21, and 22; from October 29 to 30; from November 3 to 5; on November 6, 9, 10; on November 12, 13, and 16; and from November 18 to 20—added November 23 to 24;
      • Surrey Traditional School (13875 113rd Avenue) had an exposure on November 18;
      • T.E. Scott Elementary (7079 148th Street)—which previously had exposures from September 14 to 15, and from November 17 to 18; and from November 19 to 20—added November 25; 
      • Khalsa School Newton (6933 124th Street)—which previously had exposure events from September 22 to 25; from October 20 to 22; and from October 28 to 30; from November 16 to 17; and from November 18 to 20—added November 23 to 24; 
      • Khalsa School Old Yale Road campus (10677 124th Street)—which previously had exposures on September 1 and 4; on October 5; and from October 27 to 30 and from November 2 to 4; and from November 5 to 6 and 12; and from November 18 to 20 and 23 to 25—added November 21 to 22;
      • Khalsa Secondary (10589 124th Street)—which had previous exposure events from September 9 and 10; September 30 to October 2; from October 13 to 15; and from November 17 to 19—added November 23 to 24;
      • Sikh Academy Fleetwood (9115 160th Street) had exposures on November 18 and from November 24 to 25.
