Drivers in Metro Vancouver should take note that the demolition of an underpass on the North Shore begins tonight.

Beginning tonight (February 22), night-time crews will begin to demolish the Fern Street underpass, as part of the Highway 1 Lower Lynn Improvement Project in North Vancouver.

From today to Friday (February 26), the underpass will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day.

Detours will be in place for highway vehicle traffic.

Westbound traffic will be diverted through the Mount Seymour Exit (Exit 22B) towards a left turn at the intersection of Lillooet Road and Mount Seymour Parkway before merging back onto Highway 1.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted through the Mountain Highway off-ramp (Exit 21) to Brooksbank Avenue, before a left turn onto Main Street. On Main Street, traffic will then be directed to take the on-ramp at the north end of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge to merge back onto Highway 1.

Meanwhile, pedestrians and cyclists will detour via Keith Road on the north side of Highway 1, and a pedestrian and cyclist detour map is available online
