Police are alerting drivers to avoid an area in Surrey where an oil spill and several vehicle collisions have taken place, and cleanup is underway.

Surrey RCMP stated that around 12:35 p.m., police received reports about two separate collisions due to an oil spill in the southbound lanes of 152nd Street between Fraser Highway and 88th Avenue.

The collisions were minor, and the occupants in the vehicles sustained minor injuries.

Surrey city work crews are currently cleaning up the oil, which will consequently affect traffic in the area for several hours.

RCMP are asking the public to avoid the area until further notice, and the road has been closed for 152nd Street southbound between Fraser Highway and 88th Avenue.
