The Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society has decided to put off the Honda Celebration of Light for another year.
The decision came despite the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.
"We understand the impact this decision will have on participating teams, the musicians and performers, our exhibitors, partners, sponsors and guests, but it’s simply not feasible this year to deliver the event in a safe manner,” society cochair Michael McKnight said in a news release.
The annual fireworks show at English Bay was launched in 1990 as the Symphony of Fire. It attracts hundreds of thousands of people to its events, which feature shows put on by different countries accompanied by music.
