The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says it's "proactively" closing Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton on Saturday (November 26) afternoon.

Highway 99 will also be closed at that time between Pemberton and Lillooet, as will Highway 1 in the Fraser Canyon.

"The exact time and duration of closures will depend on the weather," the ministry said in a news release.

The closures coincide with the second of three atmospheric rivers hitting the B.C. West Coast until Tuesday (December 1).

In addition, Highway 1 between Popkum and Hope will also be closed due to reservoir releases by B.C. Hydro.

According to the ministry, these releases are "crucial to protect the Jones Lake Reservoir, which is also being affected by the heavy rains".

Highway 7 between Mission and Hope will remain open with some travel restrictions.
