New kid in town: Hotel Zed Tofino opens its doors

There’s a new place to stay in Canada’s most popular surf destination, and Hotel Zed Tofino is unlike anything Tuff City has ever seen.

With other locations in Victoria and Kelowna, the retro-chic Hotel Zed brands itself as “rebelling against the ordinary”. The chain is run by the same company behind Accent Inns (which has five hotels in B.C.)

Among the standout features in Tofino are the world’s first bike-through lobby, a secret arcade (with games like Ms. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong Jr.), a psychic’s den (there’s a drop-in tarot-card reader), and a mini disco complete with fog machine, disco ball, and LED floor lights.

The new 58-room hotel is part of the Tribal Park Allies, a group of businesses committed to the ecological protection and restoration of the Tribal Parks ancestral gardens and resurgence of Tla-o-qui-aht culture and governance. It will collect a voluntary one percent fee from guests to support the initiative.

Rates start at $179 per night. See Hotel Zed Tofino for more info.
