      Those looking to cool off in a lake in East Vancouver should find alternative locations due to concerns about bacteria levels.

      The Vancouver Park Board announced today (July 9) that swimming is not advised at Trout Lake at John Hendry Park due to high E. coli levels.

      According to Vancouver Coastal Health’s Metro Vancouver Beach Water Quality report issued this morning, the average count for E. coli at the lake is at 153 (per 100 mL). Guidelines recommend levels lower than 200 E. coli per 100 mL for recreational activities.

      Other locations with higher counts include:

      • Trail 7 (Oasis) at Wreck Beach (178);
      • Deep Cove (178), where a no-swimming advisory is in effect;
      • East False Creek (256);
      • Snug Cove (499) on Bowen Island, where a no-swimming advisory is also in effect;
      • CRAB Park (665).
