Now that the hapless Canuckleheads have officially blown it for another season, Vancouverites are desperately in need of other on-ice entertainment.

They need look no further than the Robson Square Ice Rink, which opens next Thursday (December 2) at noon.

This season the ice rink is opening its new Indoor Skate Rental and Café, which includes a new skate-dryer, lockers, and an outdoor patio with heaters.

Skate rental is $5, and skate sharpening ("when available") is $5. You'll want to get those rental skates sharpened, lest you be flopping around embarassed like a member of the Vancouver Canucks.

As an added attraction, the rink is bringing back its Twelve Days of Christmas live-music programming, with performances by the Malcolm Aiken Quartet (Dec. 13, 6-9 pm); SnapDragon (Dec. 14, 6-9 pm), Tom Arntzen and the Hot Mamas, (Dec. 15, 6-9 pm); PK3 Jazz Trio (Dec. 16, 6-9 pm); the Agency (Dec. 17, 6-9 pm); Rumba Calzada (Dec. 18, 6-9 pm); Showstoppers (Dec. 19, 2:30-4:15 pm); Caviar & Lace (Dec. 19, 6-9 pm); Karla Sax (Dec. 20, 6-9 pm); Warren Dean Flandez Band (Dec. 21, 6-9 pm); DJ Barron S (Dec. 22, 6-9 pm); Phat Santa Swings (Dec. 23, 6-9 pm); and Santa's Brass (Dec. 24, 2-5 pm).
