With Mother’s Day fast approaching, here are some local fashion and arts events to take note of that might provide some gift ideas. Or they can simply offer some shopping inspiration for yourself.

The good news is that all of them help to support local or Canadian designers, artists, artisans, or businesses—and one even supports local mothers and children in need.

      Mom power

This week, Vancouver fashion retailer Aritzia launched a limited-edition fundraising capsule collection called Cause Mom that’s a collaboration with the local public foundation Cause We Care, which helps marginalized single mothers and their children living in poverty.

Released under the Aritzia Community label, this collection will contribute 100 percent of all proceeds to Cause We Care programs and initiatives. That includes helping mothers pursue job training and education, supporting childcare and school break programs, and addressing needs of families living at YWCA Cause We Care house in Vancouver.

The emphasis for this collection is on comfort and casual wear for recreation and relaxation.
