Update: Speeding a factor in collision that killed three teenage hockey players in Surrey

      Update (August 27):

      Today, Surrey RCMP released its initial findings from an investigation into what caused a fatal collision on August 21 in Fraser Heights in Surrey that claimed the lives of three male teenagers.

      Surrey RCMP stated that investigators have determined that high speed, “significantly greater than the posted speed limit”, was a factor in the collision.

      The investigation remains ongoing but Surrey RCMP stated that it does not expect it will release further details about this case.

      Communities in Metro Vancouver and beyond are grieving the deaths of three youth hockey players after a tragic collision on the weekend.

      Surrey RCMP stated that at 2:47 a.m. on August 21, RCMP, Emergency Health Services, and Surrey Fire Service responded to a report about a vehicle that crashed into a tree in the 16000 block of 104th Avenue in Surrey.

      Upon arrival at the scene, first responders determined that all three occupants of the vehicle had died.

      The three individuals were identified by RCMP as 16 and 17 year old males, and the families of all of the victims have been notified.

      CTV News identified the three victims as Caleb Reimer, Ronin Sharma, and Parker Magnuson. All three teens were members of the Delta Hockey Academy.

      RCMP and support workers will be at the Fraser Heights Recreation Centre today (August 23) to provide support and answer questions.

      The Langley Rivermen, B.C. Hockey League, the Western Hockey League, the National Hockey League, the Surrey Eagles, and several hockey teams all expressed condolences.

      The investigation remains ongoing.
