Tragedy struck early this morning during an accident at a fast-food drive-thru in Vancouver.

Around 5:30 a.m. today (September 8), Vancouver Fire Rescue Services called Vancouver police to a McDonald’s location at Main and Terminal streets about a single-vehicle collision.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) explained in a news release that surveillance footage revealed that a driver was paying for food at the McDonald’s drive-thru when he dropped an item out of his vehicle.

When he attempted to pick up the item, the vehicle rolled forward and collided into a part of the restaurant.

Unfortunately, the driver became trapped between the vehicle door and frame, and was unable to free himself.

VPD spokesperson Tania Visintin stated that first responders attempted to revive the driver but he died at the scene.

The VPD Collision Investigation Unit and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating the incident. Police have not released any details about the driver’s identity.

Anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident, or anyone who witnessed the incident, is asked to call investigators at 604-717-3012.
