The actor who played Mini-Me, Verne Troyer, dies at 49

      Celebrities are expressing condolences over social media following news of the death of actor Verne Troyer.

      He was best known for playing Mini-Me in two Austin Powers movies starring Canadian Mike Myers.

      Myers described Troyer as a "consummate professional and beacon of positivity", noting that he'll be greatly missed.

      Troyer was only 81 centimetres in height due to a rare genetic disorder called cartilage-hair hypoplasia.

      He launched his career as a stunt double in the 1990s before appearing in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me in 1999. He also starred alongside Myers in Austin Powers in Goldmember and The Love Guru.

      The cause of his death has not been disclosed.

      His other film roles included the goblin in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Percy in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
