Amazing Race Canada Season 6: One B.C. team eliminated, another progresses to finale
As the latest edition of Amazing Race Canada heads towards its finale, one team from B.C. has been cut—but one other one will continue on.
The seventh team to leave Season 6 of the Amazing Race Canada: Heroes Edition consists of volunteers extraordinaire Martina and Phil Seo.
Martina is a 40-year-old home economics teacher from North Vancouver while Phil is a 38-year-old credit union manager from Burnaby. Together they have volunteered over 10,000 hours to helping children in Canada, Kenya, South Africa, Korea, Fiji, and the U.S.
The Seo siblings were eliminated on the September 4 episode in Fredericton, New Brunswick, in which teams visited Officer's Square in the Garrison District, the Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, the University of New Brunswick, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, and Government House on the Saint John River.
“If you want to go fast you go alone, but if you want to go far, you go together," Phil told Amazing Race Canada host Jon Montgomery. "Before we began this race I don’t think Martina had a lot of self-confidence, but when you’re put in a position where you have to do something to survive in this race, she stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park over and over again.”
Martina added that she went farther than she expected.
“I was just hoping to get to leg three to appease him," she said. "I’m so proud of my brother, he worked so hard and he pushed me to become a better person. I’m so thankful for this. I’ve done things that I never thought I’d ever do in my whole lifetime. I realize now that I can do anything with my family by my side. I love you, Phil, you’re the best.”
However, another B.C. team not only made the final cut but also won the September 4 episode.
RCMP officers Taylor and Courtney Callens (from Williams Lake and Langley, respectively) were the first to complete the tenth leg of the race, winning a trip for two to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The duo will carry on to the season finale, where they will face off against two other teams, both of which are from Alberta: first responders and engaged couple Courtney Berglind and Adam Kovacs, and coaches and friends Dylan Elias and Kwame Osei.
The Season 6 finale is scheduled to air on September 11 on CTV.
