Survivor, the American competitive reality series that premiered in 2000 to wild popularity and is widely considered to have pioneered the reality-TV genre in North America, has announced that it will begin accepting Canadian applicants.

Longtime Survivor host and executive producer Jeff Probst revealed the news on ET Canada today (September 26), calling the inclusion of Canadian contestants a “big deal”. “Canadians have been so good to Survivor, and, for years, have said, ‘When can we play?’ ” he shared. “And we finally figured it out—how to make it happen—and we are actively seeking Canadians to play Survivor.”

Now entering its 37th season, Survivor places a group of at least 16 “castaways” at a foreign, typically coastal location where they must build shelter, find food, and make fire to survive the elements—all while competing in various challenges for rewards and immunity. After 39 days and a set of regular tribal councils, where contestants are voted out by their fellow castaways, the last standing person wins $1 million.

Probst describes Survivor’s casting team as “super picky”, and stresses that they are looking for “compelling people and interesting stories”.

Those interested in participating in Survivor’s 39th season should email SurvivorCastingCanada@cbs.com with a link to an unlisted YouTube video that is their audition tape. The email should also include the following information:

      • Name
      • Age
      • Location
      • Occupation
      • Relationship status
      • Phone number
      • A brief description of why you want to be on Survivor

Survivor’s 37th season, Survivor: David vs. Goliath, premieres tonight (September 26) at 8 p.m. PT on Global.
