The film star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who is slated to make an appearance at a fan convention in Vancouver, has been receiving both support and criticism for political views about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Kristy Swanson is best known for her lead role in the 1992 comedy-horror film Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (It was later adapted into a TV series, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy, that ran from 1997 to 2003.)

Swanson is scheduled to appear at Fan Expo Vancouver, which runs from October 12 to 14.

Swanson, who has called herself a "proud Republican" and supports Donald Trump and Make America Great Again, has been vocal on social media about her support for Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual misconduct by two women.

She said that she has seen many of her high-profile friends experience slander, and thinks that Kavanaugh is "a victim of the same".

She stated that Kavanaugh deserved fair treatment, that she was praying for Kavanaugh and his wife, and praised them for their interview on Fox News.

She has also criticized accuser Christine Blasey Ford, and questioned parallels between how the social media of Ford and Stephen Paddock—the shooter who killed 58 people at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas in 2017—had been erased.

In response to her views, she has been receiving both support and criticism.

Other screen stars have chimed in, with Star Trek: The Next Generation's Marina Sirtis expressing her disappointment in Swanson while Lois and Clark's Dean Cain supported her.

On September 25, Swanson addressed the backlash by announcing that she is a survivor of molestation (as a child), rape (at age 14), and a false accusation of assault.

Regarding the accusations that she herself experienced, Swanson was arrested in Kingston, Ontario, in June 2007 on suspicion of assault after she was allegedly involved in an altercation with Marcia O'Brien, the ex-wife of Eisler.

Swanson is married to Olympic bronze medalist Canadian pair skater Lloyd Eisler, who was her partner on Dancing With the Stars.

The assault charges were later withdrawn.

Today (October 3), she tweeted that "anyone who is a victim of assault deserves to be heard" and "anyone who is accused of assault deserves to be heard".
