Shakey, a.k.a. Neil Percival Young, has let his fans know about his marriage to actor, director, and environmental activist Daryl Hannah.

It came in a message that accompanied the release of a live recording of his 1970 song "Ohio". It told the story of four Kent State University students killed by National Guardsmen during an antiwar demonstration.

There were rumours that the couple were married in August, but there was no confirmation until October 31.

"Ohio", which was performed while he was with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, was reissued as part of Young's call for "common-sense gun laws" in advance of the U.S. midterm elections on Tuesday (November 6).

Young's first marriage to Susan Acevedo in 1968 lasted for less than two years. He remained married to his second wife, Pegi, for 36 years, and they had three children together before divorcing in 2014.

Hannah has had long-term relationships John F. Kennedy Jr. and singer-songwriter Jackson Browne.

Young wrote the soundtrack and starred in the 2018 film Paradox, which Hannah directed.

Hannah, a vegan, has been arrested three times during protests against the Keystone XL pipeline. Young is also an outspoken critic of the fossil-fuel industry, as well as a long-time advocate for Indigenous people.
