Rogers Media is consolidating its morning programming on its Citytv stations.

This week, it shut down Breakfast Television in Montreal, laid off 11 at the Calgary Breakfast Television show, and shed four jobs in Vancouver.

“We are reimagining morning TV with a refreshed Breakfast Television that remains hyper-local in news, traffic and weather delivered by local hosts, plus entertainment and lifestyle content that has broad appeal,” Rogers Media senior vice president Colette Watson announced in a statement. “We are always striving to better serve our local audiences and are evolving our local morning show in Vancouver to stay ahead of consumer trends."

Rogers took over Citytv stations in a $375-million deal after the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission ordered a now defunct corporation that owned CTV, Bellglobemedia, to sell them.

This was in return for gaining the broadcast regulator's approval to take over the assets of CHUM in 2007.

Bell Media now owns the CTV network.

One of the most memorable moments on Breakfast Television Vancouver came in 2017 when former cohost Tara Jean Stevens grilled Justin Trudeau over high housing prices.

One of the best-known cohosts of Breakfast Television in Vancouver, Riaz Meghji, left the show in the summer.

Another well-known former cohost is Simi Sara, who has a talk show on CKNW Radio. And another is Jody Vance.
