Middle-aged and single, Danny Zeghers treated his video camera as confidante while he battled leukemia in mid-’90s Vancouver. Filmmakers Lewis Bennett and Aaron Zeghers (Danny’s nephew) fashioned the VHS diary into this memorable feature, which is poignant not only for Danny’s candid insights into his own alienation—such sensitivity challenges our prejudices about a man so plain that he verges on invisible—but also for the glimpse of an unglamorous Vancouver also gone too soon.
