To coincide with American Thanksgiving, Disney has released a featurette aimed to whet appetites for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which opens December 19th.
In the three-minute short, viewers are treated to outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage from a number of Star Wars films, as well as quotes from cast and crew. It’s a fascinating montage of images from the franchise’s 42-year history, and emphasizes what a big part of contemporary culture the film series has become.
Within the video, however, is one very quick and surprising image: a grown-up Warwick Davis putting on an Ewok costume. Since he was 11 years old the last time he played an Ewok, in Return of the Jedi, this would seem to indicate that he’s back in character for The Rise of Skywalker.
With original trilogy characters Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels), Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and Wedge Antilles (Denis Lawson) already announced as returning for the film, it doesn’t seem like much of a stretch that the Ewoks might show up.
Of course, this raises a far more serious question: will Jar Jar Binks be making an appearance as well?
We’ll find out December 19th.
