Bong Joon-ho's Parasite has been named best film of 2019 by the Vancouver Film Critics Circle, also taking the best director and best foreign language honours.

It was Marriage Story that emerged as the bigger winner, however, securing four awards for best screenplay (Noah Baumbach), best actress (Scarlett Johansson), best actor (Adam Driver), and best supporting actress (Laura Dern).

Brad Pitt was named best supporting actor in the sole prize that went to Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood, while the year's other critic's darling, The Irishman, was shut out completely.

      Best documentary went to Honeyland.

VFCC’s Canadian award winners will be announced on January 6.

Keep your eyes peeled for the December 26 issue of the Straight when VFCC members Ken Eisner and Janet Smith reveal their personal top 10 picks of 2019.
