Broken City  
An ex-cop (Mark Wahlberg) seeks revenge after being framed by the city’s corrupt mayor (Russell Crowe). The Book of Eli codirector Allen Hughes’ gritty crime drama also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, The Ides of March’s Jeffrey Wright, and Zero Dark Thirty’s Kyle Chandler.

Gangster Squad  
30 Minutes or Less director Ruben Fleischer’s stylized 1940s crime drama follows a group of rogue police officers on a mission to take down Los Angeles’s mob king. Gangster Squad stars Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Josh Brolin.

A Haunted House  
In this horror comedy, a young couple (White Chicks’ Marlon Wayans and Are We There Yet?’s Essence Atkins) who move into their dream home soon learn that they’re not alone.

The Impossible  
Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona’s drama is based on a true story about a British family vacationing in Thailand, who get caught in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The Impossible stars Naomi Watts, who earned a Best Actress nomination at the 2013 Oscars for her role, and Ewen McGregor.

Promised Land  
Gus Van Sant’s ecominded drama sees Matt Damon and Frances McDormand as corporate natural gas salesmen, whose arrival in a small U.S. town comes with unexpected conflicts.
