Tomorrow for National Canadian Film Day (April 29), the Vancouver International Film Festival Society will celebrate the Canadian movie industry by screening six Canadian films.

Two are B.C. productions: the Kris Elgstrand-directed Songs She Wrote About People She Knows and Andrew Huculiak's Violent.

The other Canadian films are Mommy, Being Canadian, Ben's At Home, and The Valley Below.

One of the highlights will be an appearance by X-Files creator Chris Carter, who will host an industry reception at the Vancouver International Film Centre.

This morning on the CBC Radio's Early Edition show, host Rick Cluff asked Carter if he could reveal anything about the plot of the upcoming six-episode series of the X-Files. It will be shot in Vancouver for the FOX TV network.

Carter refused to disclose details except to say that the characters of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder will have evolved in ways that would seem logical, given the passage of time.

The show will once again star Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.

David Duchovny likes Vancouver, according to Chris Carter.

Cluff also asked about Duchovny's famous comment many years that he didn't like the rain in Vancouver. This led many local residents to believe that this led to the series location being moved to Los Angeles near the end of the run.

"I think that was overblown," Carter replied. "I think he made a joke and people took it seriously."

And yes, Carter insisted, Duchovny and the rest of the cast are happy to be back in our town.
