Can a robot provide as much companionship as a human being for isolated seniors? That’s what Dutch researchers are trying to determine as they prepare for a massive wave of baby boomers entering their 80s.

Three female seniors test out Alice, a doll-like robot capable of conversation and visual recognition. Despite Alice’s limitations and the women’s initial reluctance, this thought-provoking documentary captures the caregiver robot providing a surprising amount of interaction for mobility-challenged people who may otherwise go numerous days without seeing another person.
