VIFF 2015: Catfishing is taken to a whole new level in The Amina Profile

      The Amina Profile (Canada)

Catfishing is taken to a whole new level in this disturbingly personal doc, which follows a Montreal woman’s journey as her relationship with a Syrian lesbian—A Gay Girl in Damascus, as her popular blog is called—goes from weird to worse.

When Amina Arraf appears to be kidnapped by the Assad regime, there’s a worldwide outcry for her release. But some of her followers start to wonder if she ever existed in the first place. (It’s only too bad that, because of the way the smoothly made film is being promoted, everyone knows this going in.)
