Love Is All: 100 Years of Love & Courtship (U.K.)

With deep access to the British Film Archives, poetic spell-weaver Kim Longinotto draws equally on obscure documentaries, silent dramas, newsreel footage, and the odd famous title (some as old as 1929’s Piccadilly, starring sexy Anna May Wong) to portray all manner of cinematic love, lust, loyalty, and betrayal with breathtaking assurance.

It initially feels odd to have all the music provided by one modern singer, England’s Richard Hawley, but his swooning reveries, recalling Scott Walker’s soothing melancholy, turn out to be perfect for this flickering fever dream.
