VIFF 2015: Don't miss In Transit

      In Transit (USA)

The final directing effort from doc hero Albert Maysles (Grey Gardens, Gimme Shelter), who died this year at 88, found him with a team of filmmakers gaining almost unbelievable intimacy with ordinary passengers on the now-ironically named Empire Builder, a long-distance train running through some of the most economically and environmentally devastated parts of the U.S.

Although culled from multiple trips both east and west, a through-line is provided by several compelling travelers, including a past-due pregnant woman hoping to join her family in time and a young black father who finds spiritual guidance from an old man he stumbles upon in this real-life journey. Don’t miss it.
