VIFF 2015: My Golden Days recounts epic young love

      My Golden Days (France)

The evocation of period is subtle and the insights into young amour fou even more so in Arnaud Desplechin’s masterful film.

Busted at the border for innocently radical transgressions from the past, Paul ends up recounting the epic story of his first love, Esther. Young, brave, inspired, and both too smart (and wounded) for their own good, Paul and Esther are bonded inside a psychological mystery whose clues still elude him, but not us, provided we’re open to seeing them.
