VIFF 2015: Vincent warrants the plunge

If the late, lamented Eric Rohmer had directed a superhero movie, it would have looked like this. Director Thomas Salvador plays a shy construction worker who’s really only at ease in the water; getting wet gives him Samson-like strength, accruing him cool points with a sexy young woman he meets in the countryside (hence the Rohmer reference). But it also leads to a mildly violent incident that Salvador asks us to believe would demand a police response recalling James Cagney’s chase at the end of White Heat. This flick is not the top of the world, Ma, but it is intriguingly offbeat enough to warrant the plunge.
