FSM swipes hook-up culture

      FSM (Canada)

Even as it focuses on the downside of hook-up culture, FSM exudes a winning ease and brightness. For one thing, Vancouver hasn’t been this lovingly called upon to play itself since Ben Ratner’s Down River in 2013—the film’s affirmative vibe is literally graffitied on a wall or two—while Vanessa Crouch provides a warm centre to its tale of an up-and-coming DJ whose love life could use a bit more flow.

FSM has its flaws, but self-possession isn’t one of them.

December 3 and 5 at the Whistler Film Festival.
