Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival opens Friday (January 8) at the Cinematheque with Mina Shum’s fine documentary about the Sir George Williams University “riot”, which occurred in Montreal in 1969 after a number of Caribbean students cited their prof for racism.

Forty-six years later, Shum dredges up explosive firsthand information, none of it particularly favouring the authorities, all of it still relevant. The local filmmaker will present Ninth Floor followed by a Q&A moderated by fellow director Sturla Gunnarsson.
